International Competition on Industrial Design withElements from Chinese Martial Arts and Culture


Explanatory notes:

1. Effective immediately, participants from worldwide may submit their entries after paying the evaluation fee. All entries and screenshot or photo to evidence payment for evaluation feeare to be submitted to the organizers’ official email zhwx@nsi.edu.cn

2. This is an annual competition. The submission deadline for each year is on December 20.

3. Entries received after the deadline will be automatically considered for evaluation in the following year.



Chinese martial arts and culture studies represent one of the most distinctive and splendid cultural contributions of the Chinese nation to the world. Over the centuries, this magnificent heritage has become deeply embedded in our cultural consciousness.

While martial arts and culture studies is loosely related to modern industries, it provides unmatched advantage to stimulate industrial innovations and serves as a powerful catalyst to advance productivity and creativity.

In every heart there lives an eternal martial legend. Martial arts and culture empowers creativity to soar like a celestial steed; it enables genius ideas to flash through dreamlike skies; it plants the seeds of imagination. Consequently, it changes the world without even being noticed.


Purposes of the competition:


  1. To encourage innovative industrial design with elements from Chinese martial arts and culture across diverse sectors, leveraging cutting-edge technologies.

  2. To inspire the realization of every spark of genius into tangible works and provide a platform for showcasing these creative ideas.

  3. To promote cross-cultural creations by encouraging participants from Latin America, Africa, and other regionsto fuse Chinese martial arts with their local cultural traditions.

Eligibility:

  1. The competition is open to individuals worldwide who aspire to apply Chinese martial arts and cultural elements to innovative industrial designs that contribute to socio-economic development.

  2. Visionary parents are encouraged to support and nurture their children’s creative talents, helping them turn flashes of genius into their first remarkable achievements. Your child could well be the next Thomas Edison or Steve Jobs.


Entry Categories:

(Non-Chinese entries must include English subtitles or explanatory notes):


  1. Photography: Submissions must include original photographic works.

  2. Film & Television: No restrictions on genre. Submissions may include a full script or a script synopsis (minimum 1,200 words), or a highlight-style video of the storyline (minimum duration: 180 seconds).

  3. Product Design (Includes design for household items, industrial products, etc.): Submissions must include renderings and design drawings.

  4. Space Design: For example, tourism & cultural theme parks or leisure spaces designed with elements fromChinese martial arts & culture. Renderings are required.

  5. Martial Arts Equipment Combination: Based on martial arts philosophy, combine various tools or equipment for martial arts practice or physical fitness. Submissions must include videos or images with explanatory notes.

  6. Architectural Design: Submissions must include renderings of architectural works.

  7. Advertisement: Commercial or public interest advertisements that incorporate elements from martial arts and culture designed for specific products or causes. Submissions must include video or visual renderings (e.g., print ad layout).

  8. Others: Any other creative design concept rooted in martial arts and culture. Submissions should include videos, illustrations, design drawings, etc.


Declarations:

  1. The participants retain full intellectual property rights to their respective submitted entries.

  2. No party shall infringe upon these intellectual property rights, barring explicit consent or authorization of the participants.

Research Center of Chinese Modern Martial Arts of Nanjing Sport Institute.

Event Operations: Nanjing Wuxue Field Cultural Development Co., Ltd.

Fees:

  1. To promote innovation, registration fee is waived. A nominal evaluation fee applies.

  2. Standard Evaluation Fee: RMB 50 per entry.

  1. Special Evaluation Fee applies to the following entries:

    1. Written works exceeding 3,000 words: RMB 100 per entry;

    2. Video works longer than 300 seconds: RMB 150 per entry;

    3. Park & Spatial Design: RMB 200 per entry;

    4. Martial Arts Equipment Combination: RMB150 per entry;

    5. Architectural Design: RMB200 per entry;

    6. Entries belonging to Others categories: RMB100 per entry.


All fees are denominated in Chinese Yuan (RMB).International participants shall pay equivalent amounts based on entry categories prescribed above.


Awards:

  1. Category-based evaluation and awards for entries.

  2. Winners from each category will receive cash prizes or equivalent awards. Each category will have -

    1. Grand Prize: 3 recipients

    2. First Prize: 10 recipients

    3. Second Prize: 20 recipients

    4. Third Prize: 50 recipients

    5. Excellence Award: 100 recipients

  3. Second Prize entries are eligible for recommendation to commercialize the design/product, should the winners wish to do so. Each winner will receive 25% of the commercial profits attributable to his or her respective intellectual property.

  1. First Prize entries will be recommended to relevant industrial institutions for commercialization. Each winner will receive 40% of the commercial profits attributable to his or her respective intellectual property.

  2. Grand Prize entries will be recommended to relevant industrial institutions for commercialization. Each winner will receive 50% of the commercial profits attributable to his or her respective intellectual property.

  3. Announcement of results: March20, 2026

  4. Period for recommending winning entries for commercialization: April15 to April 26, 2026
